WHAT’S THE THEME OF YOUR FILM?

The theme on which my lm is inspired is about a real case, in which a family is destroyed by the father. Mainly dealing with the topic of sexism, within Latin American society. In this case, I especially refer to how sexism is not only found in the humblest classes, but also all social strata, even the most wealthy.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

It was quite personal, this case was very close to me. I felt it as if I had been there, and I always had it very personal. Obviously the story is a bit adapted not to show all events completely.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO MAKE THIS FILM?

The success of a short, or lm, is the connection that a writer or director has with the theme; it has to be something very personal or intimate. If not, you are going to create something very insipid. When I had to make my nal for the uni- versity, I wanted to look for something very personal and one day while I was writing, this story came to me.

It was quite personal, I took out of my heart everything I wanted to tell. I started writing from the perspective of the character from after the events that occurred in the narrative. With this something that was personal and very nice, I will tell the story, the script precedes the narrative that I wrote. Already knowing what I was going to tell, I started writing the story.

KNOWING THE DESIRE OF RAÍZ TO BREAK STEREOTYPES, AND BRING THE REALITY OF LATIN AMERICA TO THE UNIVERSITY. WHAT DOES YOUR SHORT FILM OFFER THE TO THE LATINX COMMUNITY?

Well, more than breaking stereotypes, it tells the realities that are experienced in Latin America; cases that people do not realize that they occur many times. It places the spectators in Latin American houses. Homes that show wealth, in this way teaching that sexism not only happens in the most humble strata, but in all areas we can see the sexist culture.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AS AN ARTIST?

Throughout my whole life before Emerson, my culture has been everything for me. I have done everything to show that we are not those stereotypes created in society, I want to show that we can be students, workers, professionals, etc.

My theme focuses on the Latinx community. Showing their culture and being a voice in the university. I always want to maintain my culture whenever I can, being always implicit that I am Latino. Taking my culture everywhere I go.

WHEN DOES THE SHORT COME OUT?

Hopefully the first week of March, we start shooting the first week of December.
