#21 On being Trans

When I think about my transness, I think of decolonization,

I think about what rebuilding after a hurricane should be,

I think about mending wounds. When I think about my transness, I think about a direction

Rather than a destination,

A messy direction that at times Seems frustratingly circular.

This is to say that like

this island, Puerto Rico,

My body too has been colonized and has as well

Played a role in its colonization. When I say I’m trans,

I’m saying I’m envisioning a future,

A future without exploitation or roles

Or tyrants or militias or poverty Or borders or
